Airtel Nigeria CEO Urges Businesses to Embrace AI-Driven Digital Transformation
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries around the world, Airtel Nigeria's Chief Executive Officer, Dinesh Balsingh, has called on business leaders to accelerate Nigeria's digital transformation by embracing intelligent technology platforms that drive innovation, productivity and long-term economic growth.
Speaking at the Lagos Business School (LBS) Breakfast Club during a session themed "From Telco to TechCo," Balsingh explained that the telecommunications industry is evolving beyond providing voice and internet connectivity. According to him, the future lies in intelligent digital ecosystems powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), satellite connectivity and integrated enterprise solutions.
He noted that businesses are no longer looking for connectivity alone. Instead, organisations increasingly want technology that improves productivity, strengthens cybersecurity, automates routine processes and supports smarter decision-making. Balsingh said this shift is transforming telecom companies into technology partners that help businesses unlock new opportunities for growth.
The Airtel CEO also highlighted sectors such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, retail, government, oil and gas as industries that stand to benefit significantly from AI-powered digital infrastructure. He stressed that organisations investing in intelligent technologies today will be better positioned to compete in the years ahead.
For Nigeria, the message reflects a broader trend. As AI adoption continues to accelerate globally, businesses are being encouraged to move beyond basic digital tools and invest in technologies that improve efficiency, strengthen resilience and create lasting value. Experts believe organisations that embrace intelligent platforms early are more likely to lead the next phase of the country's digital economy.
