Bitcoin Breaks Above $80,000 as Crypto Rally Picks Up Pace

Bitcoin has climbed above the $80,000 mark for the first time since May, extending a strong recovery that has brought fresh attention back to the cryptocurrency market.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose as high as $81,237.94 during Tuesday’s trading session before settling around $80,323.24 in Asian trading hours. The move puts Bitcoin at its highest level in more than three months.

Bitcoin has gained about 28% so far in August, putting it on track for its strongest monthly performance since November 2024. The latest rise has also pushed the wider crypto market higher, with major digital assets such as Ethereum and Solana recording notable gains in recent days.

One of the factors behind the rally is renewed investor interest following a period of weakness in the U.S. dollar. Recent moves by the U.S. Treasury to increase purchases of longer-dated government bonds have put pressure on long-term yields and contributed to concerns about the future strength of the dollar.

That has revived what analysts describe as the “debasement trade”, with some investors turning to assets such as gold and Bitcoin as a hedge against concerns about the purchasing power of traditional currencies.

Investor demand through U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds has also picked up. Recent ETF inflows have provided additional support for Bitcoin’s recovery, suggesting that institutional interest is returning after the market’s earlier downturn.

The rally has been further supported by renewed optimism around cryptocurrency regulation in the United States. President Donald Trump recently called on Congress to move forward with legislation aimed at providing clearer rules for the crypto industry, helping improve sentiment across the market.

Still, the latest move does not guarantee that Bitcoin will continue rising at the same pace. After such a sharp recovery, traders will be watching to see whether buying pressure remains strong enough to keep the cryptocurrency above the $80,000 level.

For now, Bitcoin’s return above $80,000 marks a significant turnaround for a market that had faced months of pressure and uncertainty.

With Bitcoin back above a major psychological level, the big question is whether this rally has enough strength to continue.
