JAMB, WAEC End Multiple O’Level Verification Charges, Fix Fee at ₦4,000

JAMB, WAEC End Multiple O’Level Verification Charges, Fix Fee at ₦4,000

Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay ₦4,000 once to verify their WAEC O’Level results under a new arrangement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The new system applies to candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB. Under the arrangement, a candidate will complete the verification through JAMB’s designated Verification Service, after which the outcome will be made available to the relevant tertiary institution.

The ₦4,000 fee must be paid through the specified JAMB platform and not to the institution where the candidate is seeking admission. JAMB and WAEC have also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.

This means institutions are not permitted to demand another payment from a candidate to verify the same WASSCE result after it has already been verified through JAMB. WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcome with the relevant institutions. 

The change follows JAMB’s introduction of a system that allows candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results remotely. Candidates can begin the process from home or any other location with internet access, rather than having to visit a JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centre solely for the verification.

For candidates applying to different tertiary institutions, the verified result can now be made available to the relevant schools through JAMB instead of requiring the same WASSCE result to go through another paid verification exercise.

JAMB and WAEC said the arrangement is intended to reduce unnecessary costs and simplify the admission process while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.

Candidates seeking admission through JAMB should therefore complete their WASSCE O’Level verification through the designated JAMB Verification Service and avoid paying third parties or individual institutions for the same verification.
