Considering the rate of airplane and helicopter crashes, can we say meteorological agencies are underrated and have been taken for granted?

It's true that meteorological agencies are frequently underestimated and treated with disdain. They play a vital role in supplying weather information that is necessary for safe and effective aircraft operations, yet their efforts are sometimes disregarded until a fatal disaster happens.

Meteorological agencies play a vital role in:

1. Giving pilots, air traffic controllers, and airlines precise and timely weather forecasts and alerts is one of the main functions of meteorological services.
2. Sending out warnings for extreme weather, including icing, turbulence, and thunderstorms.
3. Assisting in flight planning and aircraft routing decisions.
4. Reducing weather-related postponements and cancellations.

However, unless a disaster or event happens because of weather-related variables, the significance of meteorological services is sometimes overlooked. This is partially due to the fact that their efforts are not always immediately linked to the safe arrival of planes and that their labor is frequently unseen to the general public.

When compared to the daily number of flights, the rate of crashes involving airplanes and helicopters is quite low. But even one accident is too many, and meteorological organizations are essential in lowering the likelihood of weather-related mishaps.
 

Acknowledging the crucial function of meteorological agencies allows us to:

1. Provide more funds and resources to assist their work and investigations.
2. Raise people's understanding of their role in aviation safety.
3. Promote tighter coordination between aviation authorities, airlines, and meteorological services.
4. Create more sophisticated models and technology for weather forecasting.

The danger of weather-related accidents can be decreased, and aviation safety can be improved by appreciating and supporting meteorological agencies.
