Yesterday, members of the Nigerian Army's 9 Brigade found 1,671 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in an apartment in Lagos State's Olodi-Apapa neighborhood.
The main suspect is still still at large, but three other people were later detained in the residence.
The arrest and recovery were made as a result of a tip-off, according to Brig. Gen. Isang Akpaumontia, the Brigade Commander, who paraded the suspects and displayed the PVCs, ballot papers, and other things to journalists at the Ikeja Cantonment.
The year 2022 was the registration year for the majority of the recovered PVCs, although some also included the years 2011, 2012, and 2021, and their owners were all Lagos State citizens.
Akpaumontia, who briefed the media, stated: "Three young males were detained with 1,671 PVCs earlier today (yesterday). This came after receiving preliminary information. We were able to apprehend them with the help of the Department of State Services, or DSS.
"They were found in possession of a blade, over a thousand PVCs, some narcotics, and charms. They were apprehended in a residence we tracked them to in the general Apapa neighborhood. The primary suspect, the owner of the home, was located at a hotel. But he departed.
We will deliver these suspects and exhibits to our immediate headquarters so they can take the necessary action because things must be handled properly and to deter others from thinking they can break the law and get away with it.
