Morocco Outclass Canada to Reach World Cup Quarter-finals

Morocco produced another commanding performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating co-hosts Canada 3–0 in Houston to book their place in the quarter-finals for the second consecutive World Cup. The victory also keeps Africa's hopes alive, with the Atlas Lions now standing as the continent's last remaining representative.

The first half ended goalless despite Canada's energetic start, with the hosts creating several early opportunities. However, Morocco remained composed and relied on the experience of goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono) to keep the score level before the break.

Morocco broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half when Azzedine Ounahi finished brilliantly after a well-worked set-piece involving Achraf Hakimi. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Morocco's favour as the North Africans began to dominate possession and exploit spaces in Canada's defence.

Ounahi struck again in the 82nd minute, curling home his second goal of the afternoon to put Morocco in complete control. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Soufiane Rahimi added a third after being set up by Brahim Díaz, sealing an emphatic victory and ending Canada's historic World Cup run.

Canada can leave the tournament with plenty of pride after reaching the knockout stage for the first time in their history. However, Morocco's quality, discipline and clinical finishing proved too much for the tournament co-hosts.

The Atlas Lions will now face the winner of France vs. Paraguay in the quarter-finals as they continue their pursuit of another historic World Cup campaign. After reaching the semi-finals in Qatar 2022, Morocco have once again shown they belong among world football's elite.
