A network error ruined the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), leaving parents and candidates fuming over their destiny on Tuesday at the State III Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers state.
The sets scheduled to take the two-hourly Computer Based Test (CBT) at 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. also were unable to connect to the system to take the test starting at 6.30 a.m. due to a network outage.
"My son registered in Port Harcourt among the earliest candidates, and to be honest, I never felt comfortable with the arrangement when his details printout mentioned Elele, two local government areas aside from Port Harcourt where he registered," one of the irate parents said to Vanguard.
The kids were asked to wait this morning when they arrived considerably earlier than 6.30 a.m. because there was a network issue that needed to be fixed. However, the 9.30 am and 12.30 pm sets have arrived to take on the same challenge. My neighbor has confirmed that her daughter, who attended a writing center in Port Harcourt, has come home. How unbearable can it be?
When contacted, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, spokesman for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), advised hopefuls to wait. The manager of that center would take care of the issue and, if necessary, reschedule those who were impacted for another day. They will undoubtedly sit for the test.
We'll send you text messages on when you'll be rescheduled to take your examinations, one of the center's managers assured the group of agitated students and parents after hours of waiting in vain. You may all return home.
