Russia Becomes Second-Biggest Crypto Miner After the US As American Regulatory Landscape Shifts: Report

According to statistics, the United States continues to be the greatest Bitcoin (BTC) miner in the world, with Russia coming in second. In a recent report, the Russian news outlet Kommersant said that regulatory uncertainty in the US had propelled Russia to second place for the first time, and that the rankings may soon alter as a result.

"Russia is currently the second-largest country in the world for cryptocurrency mining. The United States continues to be the top country. But the unpredictability of the bitcoin restrictions there can trigger a brand-new redistribution of the market.

According to Kommersant, Russia's cryptocurrency and mining industries are also subject to regulatory uncertainty.

The legal framework for miners has not yet been established in Russia as a whole, according to experts. Additionally, the dangers of sanctions are growing for both Russian players and their Western competitors.

The ranking is determined by the amount of power consumed in bitcoin mining operations, according to data from Bitriver, the largest mining service in Russia. According to Igor Runets, CEO of Bitriver, the American mining industry is facing difficulties as a result of overleveraged mining firms, deteriorating profitability, rising electricity costs, and tax problems.

Additionally, many excessively indebted enterprises are currently going for bankruptcy or have already done so since American miners purchased the vast majority of the equipment on credit.

The Biden Administration has proposed fees equal to 30% of the cost of the electricity used in operations for mining digital assets. If approved, the tax would be introduced over three years, beginning in 2024, at a rate of 10% for the first year, 20% for the second year, and 30% for the third.

One bitcoin is currently valued at $27,353, down 1.1% from the previous day.
