There is this trending movie by Femi Adebayo that was released yesterday
In the film Jagun Jagun, Gbotija, a young guy, enlists in a strong army to study the art of battle in an effort to avenge the passing of his adored father. He meets Kiitan, a stunning woman, at the army camp and develops feelings for her. Gbotija advances in the ranks as a result of his incredible bravery and courage, earning praise from all directions. His lord, Ogundiji, notices this and becomes incensed that a common soldier is replacing him as a celebrated figure. Ogundiji decides to invite him out and give him impossible tasks to do.
The more obstacles he overcomes, the more obstacles he encounters until the final one—the death of his lover Kiitan—becomes the straw that broke the camel's back, setting the stage for the conflict between light and evil; the beginning of betrayal, and the end of dictatorship.
It is a rather straightforward plot that is brought to life by an excellent screenplay. Every artist performs expertly, as one would anticipate from a film starring the greatest in the business. The flawless Yoruba language use is lovely. The setting, cinematography, and costumes are all excellent, and I believe that this production is an improvement over all others of a similar nature in Nollywood.
I have to acknowledge that the script is both groundbreaking and didactic. It reflects how difficult it may be for young people to learn, develop, and thrive in life despite their difficult upbringings. It also emphasizes how predatory and self-centered mentors and leaders may be toward their subordinates. The struggles of Gbogunmi, Kiitan, and Botija are instructive. The younger generation serves as a tool for the wealthy, tyrannical older generation. This, in my opinion, is Femi Adebayo's appeal to young people to remain unwavering, unified, and encouraging of one another in order to create a stronger, safer society.
A perfect piece of art does not exist. But this one qualifies as one in every way. I rate it a 9 out of 10, and I suggest it.
