How to Find Out Who’s Tracking You Through Your Smartphone
How often do you use your smartphone?
If you're like most people, your phone is constantly with you — at home, at work, and everywhere in between. Because our phones hold so much personal data, it's important to understand how to check whether your device is being monitored, tracked, or redirected without your knowledge.
Fortunately, there are simple shortcodes built into every smartphone that allow you to check call forwarding settings, redirection activity, and more. Below are some of the most useful ones you should know:
Code 1: *#21#
This code allows you to see if your calls, messages, and other data are being forwarded to another number.
Once entered, your phone will display the status of any active call or SMS divert settings and show the destination number if a diversion is active.
Code 2: *#62#
If callers say your line is unreachable or going straight to voicemail, dial this code.
It will show where your calls and messages are being redirected, especially when your phone is off or out of coverage. Normally, this may be your network’s voicemail service — but it’s always good to confirm.
Code 3: ##002#
This is a universal disable code. It turns off all call forwarding settings at once.
This is especially useful before traveling or roaming, as it helps prevent unnecessary call charges for calls redirected to voicemail.
Code 4: *#06#
This displays your phone’s IMEI number — a unique identifier for your device.
Write this number down and keep it safe. If your phone is stolen, network providers can block or track the phone using the IMEI, even if a new SIM card is inserted.
Stay Aware. Stay Protected.
Checking these codes regularly helps ensure:
- No unauthorized tracking
- No unknown call forwarding
- Better control over your personal privacy
While you may not be able to stop every form of digital surveillance, knowing how your phone handles your communication gives you a strong layer of protection.
