Polls: The Abia LP faction supports PDP candidate Ahiawe for governor.

Only three days before the March 11 governorship and assembly elections, several well-known Labour Party, LP members in Abia State yesterday endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate, Okey Ahaiwe, and pledged to work together to ensure his victory.

The group, which consists of different Labour Party grassroots coordinators, declared their unwavering support for the PDP candidate as their single candidate in the Saturday election in a statement signed by ten coordinators.

The LP coordinators who supported the PDP candidate in Abia include Mazi Chetachi Ikpe of the Abia State Peter Obi Grassroots Movement (POGM), Ndubueze Obiakwata of the Obidients Across Parties Alliance (OAPA), and Ukwa-Ngwa Youths for Peter Obi (UNY4PO), Edwin Ahamefule of the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), Pastor Solomon of the (AOTC).
The organization stated that Ahaiwe is placed above all other candidates, including Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party, who they felt lacked moral integrity.

The declaration said, in part:

"Okey Ahaiwe stands out in this race for two reasons: his credibility and his ability to maintain his reputation as a wise administrator.

"All of Governor Ikpeazu's meager achievements in office revolved around Okey Ahiwe.

"The accomplishments include: Maintaining peace and security in Abia State, bringing the Geometric Power Station online so that Aba has reliable power, promoting the "Made in Aba" brand by sending Aba shoemakers on overseas industrial training programs, mechanizing the Aba shoe industry by importing new machinery that increased production, and bringing Chinese expatriates to Aba for the training of Aba Shoem

"Our endorsement is based on Ahaiwe's impeccable service record and our dedication to the advancement of good governance.

We insist on backing competent candidates regardless of party, hence we have endorsed Ahiwe, a man with a verified and spotless record similar to our principal, Peter Obi.

As a result, we implore Ndi Abia to choose Ahiawe based on his special traits of credibility and consistency.
